  • Expression of Interest are invited for Examining the Role of Social Media Misinformation on Covid-19 and Lessons for Future Emergencies The specific objectives of this consultancy will be to: a. Assess the impact of social media misinformation on the fight against COVID-19 in Africa; b. Assess the current national and continental strategies to combat social media misinformation in the context of the fight against COVID-19, and where necessary, evaluate their ramifications on freedom of expression and access to information; c. Review international best practices for combatting social media misinformation; especially in emergency situations. d. Explore the current social media regulatory policies and community guidelines, and their effectiveness in combatting platform misinformation; e. Propose realistic recommendations on human rights-sensitive strategies for combatting misinformation during public emergencies in Africa; with particular reference to the role of all key stakeholders including civil society. f. Distil the research findings into a 5 page policy brief to be submitted to the relevant African Union policy makers.
