- Expression of Interest are invited for Researcher on Media Ethics in Ethiopia Bid closing date: Five working days up to Oct 13, 2023. Bid opening date: No Specific Opening Date and Time Region: Addis Ababa EMC is supporting the promotion of press freedom in Ethiopia within its action to foster freedom of expression, media freedom access to information online and offline, and the promotion of the safety of journalists in the country. Background: Ethiopian media landscape is opening since 2018. Generally, the capacity of the media sector in promoting professionalism and self-regulation is limited as there are no strong professional associations and the media council is only recently established. Professional capacity building for journalists is one of the priority areas identified by the Ethiopian Media Council. EMC plans to work with media houses, media associations and CSOs, media professionals, media educators, and media regulators in creating awareness of media ethics and professional standards and address public complaints in the works of the media. The main aim of the term of reference is to improve the situation of media ethics in Ethiopia and increase the commitment of media decision-makers to editorial and ethical codes. Therefore, EMC, in collaboration with IMS, Ethiopian Media Authority, Addis Ababa University, Mersa Media Institute, and Editors Guild of Ethiopia) will hold a study of the situation of media ethics in Ethiopia Objectives of the auditor To hire a potential consultant for one month to conduct a study of media ethics in Ethiopia To make an independent assessment of the role of organizations in the media ethics process, paying special attention to the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, and efficiency of media ethics in the selected organizations; In close coordination with members of the Ethiopia Media Council (EMC), the auditor shall prepare an annual audit of the organization. In doing so, the auditor shall ensure the following: - Assessment of stakeholder participation in the preparation, management, and implementation of the media ethics and the level of ownership at the institutional level and civil society level; Relevant recommendations are identified in order to adjust the implementation of the media ethics in their domain. Develop a detailed work plan, indicating the time in which the study results will be produced and delivered; The consultant should attach a company profile with significant experience.
